Evil Dead has a huge fanbase, and is said to be Sam Raimi's best film. I love this film, I remember when I first watched it hearing all the hype about it, I expected to watch something really scary, and really gorey, and yes I got what I wanted, just that. Alot of people fo out and watch these movies just because of one guy, one guy who made himself a legend after the first film, his name is Bruce Campbell. His character is Ash in the movie. In Evil Dead Ash wasn't much of a badass wisecracker, he pretty much was a sacred little girl trying to survive from possesed demons, while being treated to horrible acts.
I mean seriously Ash gets thrown into a book shelf (twice), gets covered in blood, results to killing his friends (and his girlfriend), and gets hurt everyway possible. Well all that fighting pays off because in the second one, he's bad-ass! Now lets get back to this movie, what are some of the great aspects?
One of them has got to be the horror, the horror was just to good to be true, it was serious, and it wasn't 'funny' as people say it is (these people are aviously the people who havn't seen it, but saw that Ash was badass). So anyways the horror was good, but the gore was also good, some of the best gore is in this movie, from a hand ripping a torso in half, to claymation possesed people decomposing before your very eyes.
I also must admit that it had a great cast, Ash (Bruce Campbell), (Ellen Sandweiss), (Hal Delrich), (Betsy Baker), and (Sarah York). I bought the Digitally Remastered DVD of Evil Dead, which contained a booklet on the "Ladies of Evil Dead", its techniquelly an interview with the three ladies at how it felt putting contacts on, and so on so forth.
Speaking of contacts, the contacts in this movie (yet big and bulgy), were magnificent, the actors actually looked like they were possesed, and the main reason is because those contacts were think and whitish, is if they were in a sort of trance.
The makeup work on the possesed were awesome, my favorite being the "demon in the basement", I seriously think that she had the best makeup. Those bulging reddish eyes, the vut up face with the blood coming out of the mouth, also the possesed demon who was singing "We're gonna get you, not another peak, better go to sleep, we're gonna get you..." ect. was very effective, I thought she was creepy, her childish laugh, but there was something I noticed. When she gets dragged outside her makeup kind of changed she looked more like a witch, and less like the happy childish one. Ok I give up I'll confess, they shot the scene when she's getting dragged outside before the inside scene where sings her little song, they just changed her makeup a bit.
Those two weren't the only good possesed demons, how about the one who gets her arm but off by the knife, then gets the knife stuck in her back. They say she had the longest scream ever recorded in cinema history. (I would scream like that too, after i get my hand cut off, then get stabbed in the back ,Ouch!).
The special effects were good, I especially remember the scene where (Sarah York) first beocmes a demon. The wound from her leg goes up her leg like a type of claymation drawing, i just loved that. So is Evil Dead a good movie? Yes it is. Is it worth buying or renting? Of course, and if you havn't seen it, I pity you, because your missing out on a great deal of fun. 10 out of 10.
The story goes that a group of young adults go to a cabin. Thats where they find the necronomicon (Book of The Dead), and each person slowly turns into a possesed demon...
