What do you all think of Re-issue DVD's? Yknow, Dvds that are rleased again usually in "Special Editions". I say this is a cool idea for older films that originally had no features or subpar transfers like Candyman or Christine. But re-issues of films that already have huge amounts of features and top-notch presentation when they first come out seems like nothing more than milking the cash cow to me. Movies like Hellboy and Pirates of the Caribbean already have very well done 2 disc editions...are 3 disc re-issues really necessary? I say no...Unless I suppose, someone doesnt already own the films...
What do you all think?

I hate buying a DVD then months later a special edition comes out! Damn Underworld, Resident Evil & Hellboy pulled that shit on me!

It's annoying. I believe older films should be, but why new films?

I remember about a month ago, The Funhouse was finally released from Universal over that crappy Goodtimes version. I was excited because the sound quality on the Goodtimes DVD was just terrible, so the new Universal DVD with exceptional audio really pleased me. However, I would have been more pleased with a higher amount of special features. Not really feelin' "just the trailer."
I also hate that the original Dawn of the Dead was released on some Anchor Bay version with a few decent special features, and then some huge four-disc collector's edition (gasp!) is released a few months after. Total scam. (But hey, I knew the four-disc set was coming so I guess that's really my fault.)
In the end, it's all for money, and they do it because they know that people like us will give in and buy their 'better packages' anyway. Bottom line.

Yeah see, I'm not going to go out and buy the 3-disc Hellboy...I just got the 2-disc like 2 months ago! Whats a better idea, is if they release both a basic version and a special edition at the same time, and then let us choose...TCM 2003 did it...Van Helsing just did it...Dawn of the Dead 2004 and Chronicles of Riddick are doing it! I say if youre gonna give us a "better" edition, do it now!

That's probably the only thinng that bothers me: when a few months after they release a better edition. I wish they would release both at the same time.

This is why I wait a while before I get my DVD's.

I swear, its deliberately a fecking cash-cow. When Freddy vs. Jason came out on region4, later than the region1, which had thousands of features, it had absoultely jack all. What peeves me is they wrapped it in a niffy cardboard box and made no mention that a 2-disc special edition was coming out later, I had to hear about the 2-disc version from Chuck. They also did the same thing with the TCM remake.
They all have the ability to release the extended 5 disc special edition with extra scene dvd at the moment they decide to, but they sell a crappy, cheap to produce dvd to see if the special edition will actually sell.
Its all one big evil ploy to make many many dollars. Except from Anchor Bay, they are gods, they try to get the horror classics out, with as many features as possible, and they're cheap! I look at my Book of the Dead dvd now and a tear wells up in my eye, knowing that not all companies are evil.

The Ring DVD had shit for special features. Not a damn thing. Surprising for a film as big a hit as it was. With the Ring 2, i guaran-damn-tee there will be a SE DVD of the first one coming out to coincide with the theatrical premiere of the sequel.
Disney also is a whore with their movies and placing them in a VAULT every 2 years only to re-release them bigger in a couple years. Fuck Disney, I am glad they don't have shit i want. Aside from the Black Hole, which i already possess.

I thought it was strange how little features the Ring had, too. I agree, there will be a new SE with the release of part 2. The same thing happened with the Bourne Identity. And I heard the new SE features were really shitty and all basically 5 minutes long.
