Where have you heard all the bad things about it?
For me, although it's been years since I've seen it. I thought it was pretty cool. It's a messed up movie indeed and you should give it a try....it wouldn't hurt ;D

Yeah, I hear what your saying Rumble. I know a lot of people that absolutely hated the movie. At the moment I'm on the fence when it comes to this film. For some reason everytime I watch it my opinion of it changes. Sometimes I think it's a terrible movie and at other times I think it's a masterpiece. One thing's for sure, it is a highly disturbing film. I don't know if you've seen Ruggero Deodata's 1980 film The House on the Edge of the Park (also starring David Hess); the two films are very similar. Chances are if you like one you'll like the other, and if you hate one then it's a pretty sure bet that you'll hate the other. One thing to be aware of is that about 98% of the copies of Last House floating around are cut versions; if you do decide to give the film a look, do yourself a favour and pick up the uncut version. Here are two reviews of Last House that may be worth reading if you would like to know what to expect before seeing the film - it really is NOTHING like A Nightmare on Elm Street or Scream. And I really do mean NOTHING. www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s575house.htmlhorrordvds.com/reviews/a-m/lhotl/

Well I'd have to disagree. I saw this film several times (I have the uncut DVD) and I still can't find anything possitive to say about it. The subject matter has nothing to do with. It just seems that Wes Craven concentrated too hard on the shock value that it took away from the story...not to mention the bad acting and that HORRID score. But watch it anyway, RumbleWolf...only you can decide for yourself and yes, get the uncut version.

Well I'd have to disagree. I saw this film several times (I have the uncut DVD) and I still can't find anything possitive to say about it. You're probably right, Chalkie. Particularly considering the fact that after I last saw the film I actually threw it in the trash. There's not too many videos/DVDs that I've felt the need to throw away. As bizarre as it sounds, it is precisely because I found the movie disturbing enough to throw away that causes me to have mixed feelings about it. Part of me feels that any film that succeeds in bringing out such strong feelings of distaste and disgust in me must be doing something powerfully right on some level. I know you were referring to the technical aspects of the film rather than the visceral impact, Chalkie. RumbleWolf spoke about feeling dirty after he watched "Teenage Caveman", well, that's kind of the way I felt after watching Last House. Not many films affect me in that way. The ones that have, have all ended up in the garbage. They are uncut: The Last House on the Left The House on the Edge of the Park The Last House on Dead End Street I Spit on Your Grave Caligula Forced Entry (the one directed by Helmut Richler, not the one starring Nancy Allen) Pretty disturbing and ugly movies which I recommend avoiding because once you see them you cannot unsee them - ever.

I saw Last House On The Left today for the first time. Its kind of like Dukes Of Hazard meets Sleepaway Camp meets TCM. If your into disturbing cinematagrophy....its your movie. And if your all about the storyline......well see another movie. Til Next Time Kiddies.....

I know you were referring to the technical aspects of the film rather than the visceral impact, Chalkie. Yes I was, Enchanted, which is why I didn't find this film to be that disturbing, just so ridiculously pointless.

I hated last house on the left! It's not a horror movie 2 me. More like reality, these things happen! I spit on your grave is muuuuuuuuch better. Don't know why, but rape-movies are hot! Everyone likes to be shocked by it. It's up 2 you, watch it and you'll know Akasha

I too am a big Wes Craven fan, and this is one of my favorite horror films. I must agree that it is a pretty disturbing movie. However, I think you should at least watch it once. And yes I it is very similar to "House Near the Edge of the Park". However, I think "Last House..." is better. All in all, just view it once and decide for yourself.

It got too stupid at times. The cops became a benny hill skit everytime they tried catching a ride.

Ahh, Benny Hill . . . The Hills Angels, suspenders and garter belts, high heels, sheer underwear, big knockers . . . sorry guys, got a bit carried away. Needless-to-say, I am a fan of the show. ;D
And is it just me or is Ozzy Osbourne looking more and more like Benny Hill these days? ;D
