Let's see, so far we've had remakes of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, DAWN OF THE DEAD, AMITYVILLE HORROR, THE GRUDGE amongst many others and now comes word that Revolution plans on remaking John Carpenter's THE FOG. Can a remake of KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE be far off? The good news though is that Carpenter is involved in this current incarnation of his classic 1980 film so there is hope. The original film followed the events of a thick fog that rolled in to a Northern California town bringing with it the ghosts of a bunch of seamen (hehe, I said seamen) who had died as the result of a similar fog 100 years back. Cooper Layne (THE CORE) is writing the script and while Carpenter won't direct the remake he will be involved creatively with the project. And getting back to the aforementioned glut of horror remakes, Carpenter says he's even contemplating remaking horror icon HALLOWEEN. HALLOWEEN!! Is nothing sacred? Next thing you know they'll want to get Freddie Prinze, Jr. to star in a remake of THE SHINING. The studio is looking to get started filming in February prepping for a Halloween 2005 release. Another Carpenter remake, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 with Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne, will hit theaters next year (the trailer will debut in front of AFTER THE SUNSET on November 12th).

I had heard rumors of a remake of Halloween but figured they wouldn't do it, but then I got to thinking if Psycho was not left alone and TCM was redone, nothing is sacred anymore.
Its really quite sad, I don't mine remakes of more obsurce fims so much, that sometimes gets people to see the first one and gets them into horror but stuff like Halloween, Psycho, NOES, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser and a few others should be left alone.

I dont mind seeing horror movies remade, aslong as they are fairly old movies.
I dont think that The Fog needs to be remade.

NOW HEAR THIS! THE BLOB REMAKED AGAIN!!!!!! Font . Variety
Remember the other day how I was complaining about all these horror films that are getting remade lately? It's like horror remakes are the new superhero movies. Well today I've got another doozy for ya. Paramount Pictures and producer Scott Rudin (TEAM AMERICA) are planning to remake THE BLOB. Again. If you'll remember THE BLOB was already remade in 1988 with a script from Frank Darabont (seriously!). So not only are they remaking a horror film but they're remaking a horror film that was already remade. What exactly do they think needs to be added to the BLOB tale? What else needs to be said? It's a pretty simple premise - jelly-like substance crashes to Earth from outer space that grows and moves around eating/killing people. Paramount has been remake happy lately with THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, THE LONGEST YARD, THE ITALIAN JOB (and its forthcoming sequel) and THE STEPFORD WIVES. No actors are attached yet but for an early glimpse at casting, watch the WB this week.

ARGH!
In my opinion, the only movies they should remake are films that aren't famous but are still good. That way you can draw more attention to the original. But The Thing? Scanners? The Blob and The Fly again? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Dawn of the Dead? Halloween!? ARGH!

I'd hate to see Halloween ruined.

Again as I said before, and Bub summed up, remaking more obsure or even really old films(even that is not always good, House on Haunted Hill) is okay now and then, as long as you add your own touch to it.
The Fog Remake Posted By Nadia on 10.28.04
The fog brings back the dead...
A remake of the 1980 John Carpenter film The Fog is in the works. Cooper Layne (The Emperor's Club) will pen the new screenplay for Revolution Studios.
The film is set on the shore of the Northern California coastline, where a mysterious fog brings the ghosts of several dead drowned seamen looking to kill whatever they see.
Debra Hill and Carpenter, who wrote the original, will produce the remake with David Foster.

I don't have a big problem with remakes in theory. Do I want them to be redone? Generally no, but it is quite obvious that Hollywood can't come up with somethig original. So why not let them redo some great films. However, I say this with a grain of salt. For every good remake ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"; which I liked) there's a bad remake ("Psycho; which I didn't like). Or for example look at John Carpenter's "The Thing", it was a remake. I don't think remakes are necessarily a bad idea. They probably just need to be handled with a little more care than Hollywood usualy gives them.

The Blob and The Fly again? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Dawn of the Dead? Halloween!? ARGH! Ramakes kick ass, I love seeing new perspectives on old movies. The Blob remake would be good, despite the fact that the original was watchable and the remake was decent, I still think this is a movie yet to reach its fullest potential. The Thing was a bit too slow for my liking. I would love to see a more action-based version of the film. Scanners is one of those films that is good but still has the old-movie-stench attached to it. A new version is much welcomed in my opinion. Especially with the ability of using much better effects now. Halloween needs to be remade in my opinion. I can't stand watching the teens in the original, just like a lot of other slashers they wear those annoying shorts that men would wear whilst doing gym class. Fuck, we need a more sexier version of the movie with a re-invented Michael Myers.
