[glow=red,10,300] Dawn of the Dead is an awesome movie!. It almost is the perfect horror movie since there are a few horror movies that have achieved the success of this movie. Plain and simple, the movie was made with not just the horror fan in mind. The movie had everything from suspense, action, the occasional humor and even some skin. Though one crucial thing that was a little bit left out was the gore. Horror movies, espcially those about Zombies are about the gore! Night of the Living Dead had gore, Day of the Dead also had gore and even the original Dawn of the Dead had gore. I'm not saying that the movie had no gore at all, but in my opinion, they should have added more.
The story was not really like the original in the sense that they literally lived in the mall for a really long time and turned it into a home. The only similarity I could see is the fact that in both movies, the mall was used as a temporary shelter from the plague and zombies wiping out the human race. Even the characters are entirely different.
In my own personal opinion, there was really no reason for them to put the title Danw of the Dead except for the fact that everything started happening early in the morning and that they were stuck inside a mall.
As for the characters, they were all awesome! Ving Rhames was the coolest of them all! He ROCKED!
I really enjoyed watching the movie as a matter of fact I've already watched it three times and even watched the original version once just to compare.
Both movies are good. The original vrsion however had more of the eerie, apocalyptic sort of feel because people could really easily relate to the characters and the situation they were in because of George Romero's emphasis on time (the lenght of which they stayed in the mall). It gave more of the doomsday feel because even as the zombies are slowly eating all of us away, in the midst of defeat, there was still the Human Nature element (tom Savinin & the biker) of greed to unity. In the supposed re-make, the time element was not really explored, in a sense that they kind of jumped from one situation to another. I can understand this part because there was really no other way to make the movie because of the faster and more lethal Zombies! In place of the eerie and apocalyptic feel, you are given total satisfaction as a fan because you were able to watch a movie that is really fucking GOOD!
For me, bot the original and the re-make deserve to be in the same level of appreciation! A must have for every Horror Movie-holic out there!
Then again, it's just me.....[/glow]
