If you could see the things I've seen, you wouldn't try to stop me.
Justin, Event Horizon
This movie strikes a deep fear in me. The fear of hell is one of my greatest fears. Living there is worse than nothing after death at all. Event Horizon is a movie blend (Alien, Hellraiser, 2001, The Shining) but a damn fine one with a lot to reccomend.
Acting: Nice work in this category. Lawerence Fishburne does his usual routine and works well once again. Sam Neill is the standout as Dr. Weir, the ship's designer who goes "Jack Torrance" on the crew. He worked well and was quite creepy in some scenes. The rest of the cast were likeable, especially Sean Pertwee and Jason Isaacs. But Richard T. Jones was just flat out annoying as Cooper, the "token black comic relief."
Special FX: Extremely Gruesome. The CGI is weak at parts but most of the time it's fine. The images of hell are amazing and absolutely horrific. This film has more nasty gore in the quick snippits of Hell than in any scene in Hellraiser. All in All, Gruesome and well done FX.
Directing: Great. Paul Anderson (Resident Evil, Alien vs Predator) is a very talented director. There are some great angles and very well done scenes.
Overall: Event Horizon is a very good movie blend horror scifi flick with good action, acting, effects, and direction. Some minor qualms and the fact that in the film the time moves by WAY too fast (one scene it's 3 hours left, the next it's 1 hour left) hamper this a little, but it's still a very good film.
Rating: 8/10
