[glow=red,2,300]Alien vs. Predator[/glow]
Beware of Spoilers!!
So heres what I think of this film. After seeing it I have mixed feelings, but I'm leaning more towards the positive. Basically the film covers a team of archaeologists (led by good ol, Lance Henriksen) who find an ancient pyramid buried in the antarctic. When they enter the pyramid, they discover that they are caught in the midst of a cenntennial battle between two deadly races of extraterrestrials.
This movie has a very distinct video-game like feel that screams Paul Anderson. The frenetic camera often made it hard to see just what the hell was going on. Also, the acting is sub-par with only Alexa and Weyland being the characters I even remember. The others are merely fodder! Also, the Aliens don't have much exposure and are mainly reduced down to simple killing machines. they're just sort of...there. The Preds on the other hand are very fleshed out.
We get a whole backstory on them and they ultilize their entire arsenal! Too bad they dont look very good unmasked. Also, the fact that the sole remaining Pred bonds with the last human adds a whole new demension of depth to the Predator. It shows they can be a civilized, and clever race at times and aren't just mindless killers (the film portrays the Aliens to be that). Also I was a little confused that they didnt used their camoflauge that much.
Overall, the movie is pretty much what you'd expect...a solid popcorn flick with no real plot or character development. It's delightfully...gooey...thanks in part to our extraterrestrial friends massacreing each other in various ways, but very light on human bloodshed. The ending is a bit melodramatic too...but...I had a good time and it is recommened for fans of the franchises or anyone who just wants a fun but dumb movie!
