Angel's Crest was a rare find, indeed. I literally just saw it in Blockbuster and thought what the hell. So I took it home and watched it. Wow, was I suprised.
Angel's Crest may be the finest Direct to Video film I've ever seen. Even beating Dog Soldiers for the title of best DtV film in my book. Angel's Crest tells the tale of a man named Richard. Richard misses his bus, but "fate" interveins and he sees his friend Teddy by the bus stop and hitches a ride with him. Now, I can't tell you much more about the plot without giving something away, but I will tell you Angel's Crest is definently worth a look.
The film's main strength is its great performances provided by the two leads. Both actors do excellent jobs in their roles and give the film instant credibility, for the film revolves around character and emotion, not gore or F/X.
The direction is also masterful. I remember some scenes from the film like the scene at the gas station that really intriged me a lot and really got you to think. The plot of the story revolves around fate or coincidence. It's proposed in a really great fashion and in a way it means something.
I wouldn't call Angel's Crest a horror film so much as a Thriller, but it's still a fantastic effort. The more calculating viewers may jump to conclusions on what exactly happens, but even if you do figure out its mystery, Angel's Crest holds more suprises for you.
9/10
