In hindsight, Ruggero Deodato's predecessor to CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, THE LAST CANNIBAL WORLD (or CANNIBAL, as it was known on it's initial 1977 release) is a surprisingly restrained affair compared to that.
The tale, not dissimilar to HOLOCAUST, sees a group of jungle-bound travellers arriving in the jungle to see what has happened to an earlier party. They land and find the camp, but are hindered by sudden nightfall. It isn't long before the natives have picked up on this and abduct the female Japanese member of their tribe and the remainder head into the jungle, where they are cornered and trapped by the cannibals.....
Where this film differs from HOLOCAUST is the fact that there is not filmed footage being viewed in a New York cinema and the perverted perspective that provided a genuine sense of shock is missing from this film, which plays more like PLANET OF THE APES and THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT (without Doug McClure in heroic mould). It does have it's fair share of gore moments and inevitably there is a bit of animal torture along the way, though not as much as in CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST.
Worth seeing for historical reasons.

Nice review, short and informative, the way it should be. You officially got me interested in viewing this film which I never even knew existed until now. Hey, isn't this what reviews are for?

I just recently got this film on DVD (and turned in a review to Chuck), and I must say that it's quite a gem. I'm quite glad that I saw it.

My bad...I just realized today that I have heard of this film before, but under a different title - Jungle Holocaust. I know where they have it for rent.

Woah! This is one bad ass film!! I saw it yesterday and it just blew me away! What a raw intense sadistic piece of nastiness Jungle Holocaust is!! It's not enough to kill one of the most sympathetic characters in the film, you also gotta show him/her being disembowled, cooked, and eaten!! Holy shit on a stick!!
RAW - INTENSE - VISCERAL - SADISTIC - DERANGED
THAT'S JUNGLE HOLOCAUST!!

Yes, seriously this film is pretty fantastic... It got easily one of the longest reviews I have ever written (you can all read it when Chcuky eventually posts it).... But yeah, it's totally worth seeing....
