In about a decade's time, as with THE CABLE GUY, LEMONY SNICKET will emerge as a genuine cult classic. I haven't read the books on which it was based, so I went into it with an open mind.
This is a strange concoction, full of Tim Burtonian style and a dark sense of humour (perhaps too dark for a kids film like this), without the charm of Burton's EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, which this has similarities to, in light of the storyteller which features in both.
I wish I could be more optimistic about the film, but this is a movie that steadily moves downwards in narrative, even though all the actors and crew acquit themselves well. No problem with the performances, production design or the direction, which is spot on, but it is a movie that left me cold at it's heart and one which, as I say, will probably have more reverence in years to come in much the same way the ROCKY HORROR did, although I can't help wondering if anyone will dress up as Count Olaf.

My wife wants to see this but can't walk because of a recent operation, she'll have to wait for the dvd release. I can't say the advertising for this film has got me all that interested though I may give it a try when it gets released in shops.

Well, I work at a cinema, so I've seen the credits about a million times as I was cleaning and let me give you my professional oppinion- the soundtrack rocked! Oohh, and the delightful colour scheme of the visuals in the credits, so dark, reminded me of my childhood. This is definately a keeper. As for the actual movie, the little... padding parts seem vaguely charming from what I've seen. 8\10 And then a flounder downed 'er.

Saw it last night and I thought it was very good. I haven't read the books so I don't know how faithful to them the movie is but it was still a good show.
