Based on True Events? My ass! The main characters both die. Therefore, nobody really has any idea how it happened. For all we know, they both drowned, found Atlantis or were rescued by modern-day pirates whom they joined up with for a life of pillage and plunder. Every one of those things would have been infinitely more entertaining than what we're given and that's just off the top of my freakin' head. What were we given? The Blair Witch Project in the water. We love each other. Everything will be okay. No! Wait! We hate each other. This is all your fault! I never wanted to come here in the first place! Mike, how could you throw away the map!? *cough* Excuse me. Got a little carried away there. There was also no real reason why the guy (I don't care enough to go look up their names) died. The bite wasn't that serious and shock doesn't work that way. You don't feel fine for four hours or so and then suddenly succumb to it. His death was total plot convenience. He wasn't a bad actor but the girl was horrible. She couldn't even do a believable nauseated. Ugh. I didn't watch the commentary but if it doesn't consist of a solid hour of everyone involved in the production of this movie apologizing over and over, I'm not interested. End Tirade.

Sorry to dump on a movie you liked then, Wes. I love Return of the Killer Tomatoes - which means I am officially not allowed to question anyone's taste in films.

lol... well I'm kinda in the same boat with that....
I don't think I ever saw "Return...", but I did see (and liked) "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" (which couldn't be a whole lot better than the sequal), I also enjoyed "The Incredible Melting Man" which Bub thinks is possibly the movie he hates the most...
but anyway, I don't care if you dump on it... people have different tatses (which is a good thing)....

For all we know, they both drowned, found Atlantis or were rescued by modern-day pirates I can anwser that. The director said he read a story like that in the news. He wasn't interested in making an accurate depiction of a real account, but instead showing his vision of what could happen. I thought Open Water was damn good.
