Here is a real gem for members to ponder if they can get hold of the full version of this, as it is only currently available in the UK on a cut version, but from what I saw of it last night, it was pretty graphic for all that.
I first saw this 21 years ago as a teenager and remembered it as being a half-decent story with some memorable gore. Fans of HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY will lap this one up for the gore alone. The climax is certainly that - and then some!!
Story-wise, the film tells of a professor who wakes up in a hospital with third-degree facial burns and babbling a tale of the existence of Big Foot in the forest where he and his students have been trying to validate the myth. Through flash-back and narration, the tale unfolds.....
NIGHT OF THE DEMON has to be admired for taking an old tale and trying the bring a new perspective to it. It certainly was one of the most popular titles before the Video Recordings Act in 1984 came into being in Britain. Be warned though - this Big Foot ain't as cute as the one in HARRY IN THE HENDERSONS and looks like a reject from the Dawn of Man sequence in 2001. Suspension of disbelief helps with this.
Advice to any motorcyclists - keep riding when you are out in the countryside....
