The Rock's newest movie is inspired by the real life tale of Sheriff Buford Pusser. As with many "inspired by" films, the director takes certain liberties. Mostly for action's sake.
The first thirty minutes sets up the events and it isn't until The Rock's character is left for dead that the film picks up steam. THen it has one cool scene after another.
Chris Vaughn ( The Rock ) becomes sheriff of the corrupt town and immediately fires all the deputies and replaces the snitches with his best friend played by Johnny Knoxville. And Knoxville shines in the role as Ray Templeton, a former druggie turned deputy helping Vaughn dispense justice the ole fashioned way. By brute force!
Watching them tear up a conman's truck looking for drugs was hilarious and Knoxville owned that scene! Another scene has Ray defending vaughn's family from hitmen using shotguns and Potato slicers.
I wasn't expecting much, and actually ended up having a good time. I just wished it hadn't been slated to go up against Hellboy this coming April 2. It really deserves a chance, and Hellboy could smote it's fire before it has time to rise.
