Watching Major Payne, i realized it was full of the same old hollywood cliches in the book. A ragtag group who are considered the worst ever, get a leader who motivates them, and with just a couple weeks of training, they manage to become so great they win the tournament in the end. What bullshit. So a couple of weeks training is all you need to beat other teams with months of hard training? lol.
This also has occured in dozens of other films like The Mighty Ducks, Ladybugs, Sidekicks & Stripes.
It just gets ridiculous after a while. Any other Hollywood Cliche's you remember?

Major Payne's plot reminds me of a good Clint Eastwood film called Heartbreak Ridge. Dodgeball was mostly a cliche. A crappy team defeating the best; yadda, yadda, yadda. The ending of Secret Window was a cliche. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

I agree... Major Payne was just a bunch of ugly kids trying to steal (or win, or earn, or who gives a shit) a fucking trophy that nobody cares about.
Actually, I must say the one scene I did like was when Payne was daydreaming about his perfect life... and that dumb chinsese/japanese looking bastard with a gun showed up.

Oh boy, is THIS one an overused cliche.......the cliche that either 1) the main guy and the main girl survive or 2) the top billed people live.

But its even better when that cliched is broken! Another cliche is that a guy ends up surviving what should have obliterated a normal person. See Jaws: The Revenge for a prime example.

That's also happened in countless films.

yeh, but thats the only movie that came to mind then... but speaking of sharks, you ever notice how every shark in a shark movie is either blown up or electrocuted? Jaws: Blown Up Jaws 2: Electrocuted Jaws 3: Blown Up Jaws 4: Blown Up Deep Blue Sea: Electrocuted, Blown UP *And I cant say for those countless shark DTV's out there*
Then again I wonder...how else do you kill a shark??

I've got another one: How many action movies kill the bad guy by 1) blowing him up or 2) throwing him off a tall thing?

Here's one that always annoys me and it is so blatantly obvious that I cannot hold back on it - It is this. I always think people are security conscious anyway and are more than prepared to guard their homes against unwanted intruders. You know the sort of thing - alarm systems, iron gates and so on and so on. So could somebody explain to me why, in movies, there is often a scene, which usually takes place in comedies or romances where somebody is in the living room or kitchen doing something and their lover or friend or parent simply opens the front door, walks in and says 'Hi, the door was open.' ......?

You mean just having your front door unlocked? The door at my place is usually unlocked when there is people that are home (awake).

I give you examples:
ONLY THE LONELY - when John Candy is getting dinner ready and Ally Sheedy simply walks in. It's not as if they are acquainted too well.
HEATHERS - just after Veronica's parents are seeing the high school video and the Shannen Doherty Heather simply walks in. I just think people should be a little more responsible in movies with simple things like this.
