Discussion: Is the Matrix a rip off of Dark City?

I was reading up on this discussion on IMDB, and i was wondering what you guys think of this. Now, discuss!

As far as style, very much so.

As far as story, no.

Dark City I believe is an amazing film with brilliant direction by Alex Proyas (The Crow) and a great cast (including Kiefer Sutherland, who is great in this film). The Matrix was a fun, creative, comic book like flick with tons of imagination. Wheras Dark City is more dignified and well done, The Matrix is more fun and excited.

I agree with Bub, the style and basic outline is very similar if not the same but The Matrix was bigger and more action.

Dark City was very well down and more story/plot driven then the Matrix I thought.

The styles of both films are definatly similar to each other, however i thought that Dark City was better than the matrix in aspects such as the story. Sure the Matrix had great action scenes, but i just didn't find the Matrix as interesting as Dark City... thats my opinion anyway.

Dar City was a very very interesting, engrossing piece of cinema, and judging both films together, Dark City is better overall.

The real question is, is it a ripoff of thirteenth floor or that book about the supercomputer that used humans as batteries after a robot apocalypse and kept them alive anf mentally functioning with a virtual world.

Different Styles..

Like the tittle "Dark City" says, it's a "dark" movie with different feelings and porpuses at difference of "The Matrix" , that is a movie more maked for fun with an well investigated plot ..ficticious of course..
