This review is of the directors cut
I was psyched going into the exorcist, and was expecting a good scare, with a great plot. While the visual effects, are STUNNING to a degree, that's the best thing about the movie. The acting was good, and I jumped once. But the movie offered questions without any answers, and one dimensional characters. Back storeys, that weren’t all there, But most off all its boring, very very boring. I watch the movie and i jump once in a two hour span, I was expecting blood curdling terror, I didn’t even get indigestion.
Bottom line, not scary, overly long, and a big let down. 3/10

Was the original cut good? From what I hear, only people that saw it in theatres were scared and were too shocked to care about anything else in the film.

You didn't like The Exorcist. I loved it, but I guess the reviewer's say goes, we can't outlaw him cuz he didn't like one movie.

Finally someone thinks the same about the Exorcist! I didn't find this movie special at all, i almost fell asleep while watching this. The problem was, that it was too damn long for one. Second of all, there was too much stalling. I really couldn't care less about when she was in the hospital. Third of all, some of it felt forced to scare you (But in the version you've never seen, I did jump and freak out with Linda Blair was walking on her legs and arms with blood coming out of her mouth...sheesh!).

You didn't like The Exorcist. I loved it, but I guess the reviewer's say goes, we can't outlaw him cuz he didn't like one movie. Exactly. The Exorcist is my second favorite horror movie of all time, and I am not going to over-react by damning this negitive review of it all to Hell. Wanna know why? Because I hate Halloween - another film deemed by most horror fans as being a masterpiece/classic. So I would be a complete hypocrite if I started bashing this review saying how The Exorcist is a classic and how most horror fans like it.

The Exorcist was extremely successful also because the time period was just right for Horror and the shocking turn it would make to moviegoers everywhere. Nowadays, it may seem pale, but then, it was very shocking.

I'll have to see it just because I'm a horror fan and damnit the genre seems transparent right now.

It's not a bad film, you should watch it at least once. 7/10
